General Insurance Corporation of India (GIC Re), the Indian public sector reinsurer, has appointed Hitesh Rameshchandra Joshi as Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD), effective June 16th, 2026, a role he had held in an interim capacity since October 1st, 2025.
The reinsurer notified the country’s Ministry of Finance that the appointment has been approved by the Central Government, as an exercise of its powers conferred under Article no. 83 of the Articles of Association of the Corporation.
He will hold his new position until the date of his superannuation, which is September 30th, 2028, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Previously, Joshi served as an Executive Director (ED) of GIC Re. As ED, he was responsible for human resource management, international business operations, information technology, vigilance compliance, claims vertical, audit & compliance (internal & CAG), budgeting, right to information, grievance redressal & complaints, legal, mergers & acquisitions, digital team, Business Intelligence Unit (BIU), actuary, and office support services.
Joshi is a Fellow of the Insurance Institute of India. During his time with GIC Re, he has undertaken a diverse range of assignments across all key functions.
His responsibilities include reinsurance (both domestic and international inward business), retrocession, finance, Enterprise Risk Management, budgetary control and strategic planning, internal audit, credit rating, investor relations, and also served as Executive Assistant to the CMD of GIC Re.
