MS Amlin, the Lloyd’s global (re)insurer, has announced two new senior appointments: Laura Hobern as Chief Actuary, succeeding Paul Lucas, who has been named Underwriting Portfolio Director, a newly created role.
Hobern will be joining the company in Q4 2026, subject to regulatory approval, and will be reporting to Chief Financial Officer, Jessie Burrows.
In her new position, Hobern will oversee all actuarial operations, including reserving and pricing, ensuring actuarial insight supports strategic decision-making, financial resilience and sustainable growth.
The executive will be joining the company from consultancy firm LCP, where she is a Partner advising insurance boards and executive teams on actuarial, risk and strategy.
Hobern brings over two decades of industry experience, having started her career at Swiss Re and subsequently filled senior actuarial roles at Brit Insurance, Hiscox, and Milliman.
Additionally, the executive sits on the General Insurance Board for the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries and serves as the Deputy Chair of the London Market Actuaries’ Group.
MS Amlin also announced the appointment of Lucas, who currently serves as Chief Actuary, as Underwriting Portfolio Director.
Reporting to Martin Burke, Chief Underwriting Officer, the executive leverage his insight from across the business to help shape MS Amlin’s underwriting appetite, portfolio strategy and capital allocation decisions.
