Hudson Structured Capital Management (HSCM), an asset manager specialising in the re/insurance and transportation sectors, has announced a number of promotions, including Jeff Sangster’s, the firm’s new Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Head of Strategy.
Matt Berdoff has been named Deputy COO, and Bernard Opoku was appointed Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
Additionally, Andrew Sagon has been promoted to Managing Director at HSCM and Partner in HSCM Ventures, the firm’s insurtech-focused venture capital arm.
Prior to his appointment as COO, Sangster was Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Head of Strategy, a role he held since joining HSCM in 2019.
In his new role, he will oversee all non-investment functions for HSCM including Finance, Human Resources, Legal, Compliance, and Corporate Operations. He will continue to lead the firm’s strategic initiatives and planning alongside Berdoff.
As Deputy COO, Berdoffe will continue to operate as Head of IR while expanding his work alongside Sangster to lead the HSCM’s non-investment functions and strategic initiatives onshore. He has been with HSCM since its inception in 2016, serving as Head of Investor Relations (IR).
Opoku took over the CFO role from Sangster. He joined the firm in 2028 as a Controller on the firm’s Finance team and prior to his new position, he served as Managing Director and Chief Accounting Officer.
Before joining HSCM, Opoku worked for KPMG in Bermuda where he served as Senior Manager and a key member of KPMG’s Insurance Linked Securities practice.
Michael Millette, Managing Partner of HSCM, said: “We are thrilled to have Jeff stepping up to COO. Together with Matt, Jeff’s leadership will help guide HSCM’s growth trajectory thoughtfully and strategically in the coming years.
“Bernard has done a wonderful job since joining our team five years ago and I cannot think of a better fit to take over for Jeff in the CFO seat.”
“I am excited for this next step at HSCM and look forward to working closely with Michael, Matt, and our extremely talented team to support our investment teams and continue to deliver value for our clients,” added Sangster.
In his new role, Sagon will work closely with Vikas Singhal and Michael Millette in managing the HSCM Ventures portfolios.
He joined HSCM in 2018 from Willis Towers Watson and has served as a Managing Director at HSCM since 2021.
Commenting on Sagon’s appointment, Singhal said: “Andrew has been a key contributor to the success of HSCM’s venture platform since joining the firm, and we are delighted to continue our work with him to lead and build HSCM Ventures.”
