Huntington Advisory, a global strategic advisory practice focused on financial institutions, has announced the appointment of Alexander Ankel as Senior Advisor, based in Düsseldorf.

The appointment accelerates the firm’s European expansion strategy. As the German re/insurance industry navigates a complex landscape of regulatory change, low yields, digital transformation, and significant consolidation, Ankel’s local knowledge and global perspective will help clients navigate these challenges.

Ankel brings more than three decades of insurance industry experience, including 20 years in the APAC region, as well as exposure to Turkey, the Middle East, and Europe.

Previously, he held senior executive roles at Allianz, Munich Re, and ERGO, most recently serving as a Member of the Supervisory Board of ERGO Insurance Singapore for six years.

He has a proven track record of driving growth and transformation across Europe and Asia, having served as CEO and Regional CEO in markets including Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, and Türkiye.

Gerard Pennefather, Founder and Managing Partner of Huntington Advisory, said, “Huntington Advisory is built on the principle of providing clients with direct access to the highest level of senior expertise.

“Alexander is a leader who has sat in the CEO’s seat across multiple continents. His ability to operate in complex regulatory environments and execute transformative transactions in Germany and beyond will be a tremendous asset to our clients as they seek to capitalise on cross-border opportunities.”

Ankel commented, “I have long admired Huntington’s focused, senior-led model. The firm’s commitment to deep domain expertise rather than generic consulting aligns closely with my own experience. I look forward to collaborating with Gerard and the team to support clients in navigating their most critical strategic decisions in Germany and globally, from major transactions to complex transformations.”
