Global reinsurance broking and advisory firm Gallagher Re has launched its Digital Risk Practice, bringing together specialist expertise in AI liability, data centres, cyber and digital risk engineering to help insurers and reinsurers “understand, quantify and manage” evolving technology-related risks, with Ian Newman serving as Global Head of Digital Risk alongside his existing role as Global Head of Cyber.

According to Gallagher Re, the new practice expands its “market-leading” cyber capabilities and creates a dedicated platform to address the growing impact of AI, digital dependency, and technology-driven accumulation risk across insurance portfolios.

The practice will reportedly work across Gallagher Re’s Global Products & Practices platform, reflecting the growing influence of digital risk on property, casualty, and other specialty classes.

“As businesses become increasingly reliant on shared digital infrastructure, a single technology failure can trigger losses across multiple insureds, portfolios, and lines of business. Gallagher Re’s Digital Risk Practice is designed to help clients translate complex technology exposures into actionable underwriting, accumulation, and capital insights, enabling more informed risk and reinsurance decisions,” the firm added.

Ian Newman, Global Head of Digital Risk and Global Head of Cyber at Gallagher Re, commented, “Clients and markets are increasingly seeking guidance on the implications of AI and digital dependency, not only within cyber but across a wide range of business lines.

“By bringing our expertise together under a dedicated Digital Risk Practice, we can provide a single source of insight to help clients understand emerging exposures, manage accumulation, and identify effective reinsurance solutions.

“It builds on one of the strongest cyber franchises in the market and reflects our commitment to investing where our clients’ risks are evolving,” Newman added. “Our goal is to give clients a clearer view of where digital exposure exists, how it accumulates, and how reinsurance can support growth and resilience.”
