Icen Risk, a specialist transactional risk insurer, has strengthened its North American Tax Liability Insurance team with the appointments of Hannah Tucker and Courtney Johnson.

handshakeThe company said the hires support its plans to grow its presence in the region and broaden the specialist expertise available to clients and brokers.

Icen Risk said the appointments reflect increased demand for tax liability insurance in North America, where businesses and advisers are dealing with increasingly complex transactional, tax and regulatory considerations. The company also linked the expansion to its continued investment in underwriting following Zurich Insurance Group’s strategic equity investment in Icen Risk in April 2025.

Dawn Bhoma, Managing Principal of Icen Risk, commented: “Our tax liability insurance team entered the US market only 12 months ago, and we have experienced strong demand during that period. The response from clients and brokers reflects increasing demand for specialist underwriting expertise, stable capital and a market that values responsive, technically focused and commercially minded underwriting.”

Bhoma added: “Hannah and Courtney are excellent additions to our team. Their technical expertise, market knowledge and established reputations within the tax insurance sector will further strengthen our ability to support clients and brokers across the region.”

The appointments form part of a broader period of development for Icen Risk. Over the past year, the company has expanded its North American operations with Chad Wilson joining as Head of US Tax Liability Insurance and Jonathan Spritz taking on the role of Head of US Representations & Warranties Insurance.

Icen Risk has also continued to develop its international offering. The company recently introduced its tax liability insurance proposition in the Nordic markets and launched a dedicated contingent risk insurance offering, extending the range of transactional, legal and tax risks for which it provides insurance solutions.

Tucker joins Icen Risk from QBE, where she spent six years as a tax underwriter. Before moving into insurance, Tucker worked as a tax attorney at PwC in New York, advising clients on US domestic tax matters. She will be based in Houston, Texas.

Johnson also joins from QBE, where she spent five years as a tax underwriter. Before that, Johnson worked at PwC for five years, advising multinational companies on complex international tax matters. She will be based in Boston, Massachusetts.

Icen Risk said the appointments will add further tax expertise to its US operation as it responds to continued demand from clients and brokers.

Chad Wilson, Head of US Tax Liability Insurance at Icen Risk, added: “The response to the Icen proposition in North America has exceeded our expectations. As demand continues to grow, attracting professionals of Hannah’s and Courtney’s calibre is a significant step forward for our business.”

Wilson continued: “With our US tax team operating across Central, Eastern and European time zones, we are uniquely positioned to provide clients and brokers with seamless access to specialist expertise, rapid decision-making and around-the-clock underwriting support. Hannah and Courtney’s tax expertise, across multiple areas of tax, combined with the brand quality and stability of Zurich means we are well placed to continue replicating our UK and European success in the most vibrant M&A market in the world.”
