Specialist insurance M&A, strategic advisory, and capital-raising partnership, Insurance Advisory Partners (IAP), has appointed Robin Mackie and Samantha Hagar to new roles in London and New York.

Mackie will take on the role of senior advisor in the London office. Meanwhile, Hagar joins from PNC Capital Markets to help support the firm’s US operations growth.

Tony Ursano, managing partner and cofounder of the firm, said in a statement: “These recent appointments further underline our steadfast commitment to building a world-class insurance investment banking team.”

He added: “We continue to look for the most insightful, experienced, meticulous, and hungry individuals to join our crusade to build the best insurance investment banking platform in the market.”

Mackie has worked in both commercial and investment banking, insurance, venture capital and private equity. At St James’ Place, he advised on various initiatives including the establishment of Life Assurance Holdings Corporation – then the largest UK life run-off company – now part of Phoenix Group.

As head of insurance at Lehman Brothers Europe, he was responsible for originating advisory and capital raising business from Europe’s largest insurers. More recently he served as co-head and head of financial institutions at Royal Bank of Canada in Europe, following the bank’s acquisition of Loudoun Capital Partners, a London-based insurance-focused advisory firm he co-founded following the collapse of Lehman.

David Kimmel, managing partner and co-founder of (IAP), said: “These appointments demonstrate the calibre of talent our growing business continues to attract. Robin is a highly experienced investment banker, and Sam has extraordinary proficiency in delivering the full spectrum of banking solutions. Both add to our ability to deliver the highest quality service and advice to our clients.”
