Brit Group Holdings Limited has appointed James Winn as Chief Underwriting Officer and Head of Office at Brit Re – Bermuda.

Winn, currently Managing Director of Property Treaty at Brit in London, is expected to relocate to Bermuda towards the end of 2026, subject to the relevant approvals.

He has more than 35 years’ experience in North American property treaty across the Lloyd’s and Bermuda markets.

Jonathan Stephenson, the current Head of Office, will hand over to Winn towards the end of the year as part of a planned transition.

Brit credited Stephenson with building the business to more than $250 million in third-party premium and establishing a robust underwriting platform to support an expanding product suite, most recently with the launch of US direct and facultative (D&F).

Alongside Winn’s appointment, Sam Lewis and Jolie Broomhead, both assistant vice presidents, will relocate from their respective London teams to support Brit Re’s growth in casualty treaty and D&F, respectively.

Jon Sullivan, Group Chief Underwriting Officer at Brit, commented, “We’re delighted that James has agreed to take on the leadership of our Bermuda platform as we look to the next phase of its growth.

“Since its launch two years ago, Brit Re has grown significantly and we continue to be excited by the opportunity to further build the Brit brand in Bermuda.

“I would also like to thank Jonathan, who has played a pivotal role in establishing the platform we have today and we are pleased that he will be with us until early 2027 to ensure a seamless handover.”
