JBA, a leading flood science specialist, has been selected to supply the World Bank with enhanced access to its Global Flood Maps.
This development follows JBA’s appointment to the esteemed Development Data Partnership, which facilitates the responsible utilisation of third-party data in international development.
The collaboration allows the World Bank to leverage JBA’s 30m resolution flood hazard maps for every country worldwide, encompassing flood extents and depths across various return periods, including river and surface water flooding, as well as coastal flooding in select nations.
The Development Data Partnership serves as a collaborative effort between international organisations and technology companies, aimed at ensuring efficient and responsible data usage in the field of international development.
By joining this initiative, JBA enhances its extensive work in International Development, building upon existing relationships with the World Bank, other development banks, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and governments.
“JBA global flood maps are a welcome addition to the Development Data Partnership. This flood risk data will bring valuable insight to our collaborators working on development projects around the world,” Claudia Calderon, Partnerships Lead at the Development Data Partnership, stated.
Mark Lawless, Director at JBA, expressed his delight at the appointment, saying, “We are delighted to be appointed to the Partnership and are proud of the role that our Flood Maps can play in supporting the World Bank in its mission to reduce poverty and build shared prosperity in developing countries.”
