Labuan Reinsurance (L) Ltd (Labuan Re) has announced the redesignation of Encik Zaid Aziz Ibrahim, the Officer in Charge, as the new CEO & Principal Officer, and the appointment of Melissa Karim as Acting Head of Underwriting.
Encik Zaid, who joined the company in 2020, was recently appointed Officer in Charge following the departure of Puan Johana Era Zainuddin on December 31, 2024. Previously, he served as Chief Underwriting Officer.
He brings over 28 years of expertise in risk management, consumer retail, and the insurance and reinsurance industries in Malaysia and Singapore to his new role.
Karim joined Labuan Re in January 2023 as Vice President and headed the Casualty, Financial Lines, and MGA Division.
Before that, she served as Director of FINCAS at Aster Underwriting Agency and Executive Director of FINCAS at PWS Global Risks Labuan. She also spent nine years at Asia Capital Re, where she was Head of Casualty & Financial Lines.
Earlier in her career, Karim held senior roles at CIMB, MIT Insurance Brokers Sdn Bhd, Marsh, and AIG.
