Lancashire Insurance U.S. appoints Flude as CEO, Jones to become CUO

Bermuda-based Lancashire Holdings Limited has appointed James Flude as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Lancashire Insurance U.S., succeeding Huw Jones, who has been appointed to the new role of Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO) for Lancashire U.S.

lancashire-logoFlude, who will relocate to the U.S., currently serves as Group CUO: Insurance. He joined the organisation in January 2014. While Jones has held the position of CEO of Lancashire Insurance U.S. since it was officially launched in March 2024, and was previously Lancashire’s Head of Specialty Insurance.

Lancashire has confirmed that these senior leadership changes will take effect during the second quarter of 2025.

“I am delighted that James and Huw will take on these new roles within Lancashire Insurance U.S. Huw has done a fantastic job launching the U.S. business and has built a very strong team across underwriting and support functions. Its ongoing success and the growth opportunities for the business mean we are now accelerating these senior management changes to optimise our operations,” commented Group Chief Executive Officer Alex Maloney.

“These changes are part of our continued investment in our U.S. business. Huw’s underwriting expertise and experience will be invaluable as we continue to build strong relationships with our trading partners and further expand our operations with new lines of business. James is a proven leader within the senior underwriting team at Lancashire and will bring his strong operational focus to the U.S. business at this exciting time in its development,” said Group Chief Underwriting Officer Paul Gregory.

Meanwhile, Lancashire also confirmed that James Irvine, Group CUO: Reinsurance, has decided to leave the business after 14 years of service.

Maloney, added: “We are very sorry to see James leave Lancashire. I would like to thank him for his hard work, commitment and the significant contribution he has made to the development of the business over the past 14 years, both in Bermuda and London. We all wish him the very best in his future endeavours.”

As well as this, Matthew Narbett, currently Active Underwriter Syndicate 2010, is to be appointed to the role of Deputy Group CUO. While, Matthew Thomas, currently Active Underwriter Syndicate 3010, will be appointed Active Underwriter for both Lancashire Syndicates.

Furthermore, Lancashire also announced that Rachel Sabbarton has been appointed CUO for Lancashire Insurance Company (UK) Limited, a role that Flude had additionally held for the previous four years.

Lancashire also confirmed that both Flude and Thomas’s appointments are subject to the necessary regulatory and other approvals.
