Markel, the insurance operations segment within Markel Group Inc., revealed that Bob Cox, President and Chief Operating Officer, Global Insurance Operations, will be stepping down from his role on December 31.
Cox has played a pivotal role over the last five years, spearheading successful and profitable growth strategies for the company’s global insurance operations, the company said.
Jeremy Noble, President of Markel, expressed gratitude for Cox’s significant contributions, stating, “Bob joined us five years ago bringing his more than 35 years of insurance leadership experience to lead efforts on accelerating our strategies to deliver the best value and services for our customers across the globe.”
Noble acknowledged Cox’s role in building a robust foundation for long-term, profitable growth, emphasising the evolution of products, broadening distribution channels, and enhancing global operations.
Cox, who joined Markel in 2018, oversaw the company’s global insurance operations, including its Markel Specialty and Markel International divisions. His departure marks a transition in leadership, prompting a realignment within the organisation.

“I have tremendous admiration for the Markel team, and I know they will continue to grow and innovate in the pursuit of long-term success.”
Following Cox’s departure, Markel’s Markel Specialty and International insurance divisions will report directly to President Jeremy Noble. Simon Wilson, President of Markel International, Alex Martin, President of Markel Specialty, and Bryan Sanders, Chairman of Markel Specialty, will report to Noble, effective December 31.
