Liberty Specialty Markets (LSM) has promoted Huw Owen to the role of Global Head of Financial Risk Solutions (FRS), effective immediately.
Owen will be based in London where he will report to Rachel Conran, Chief Underwriting Officer.
In the role, Owen will be responsible for strategic development of the global FRS team. The role will also see him work closely with clients and brokers to deliver LSM’s leading, tailor-made underwriting solutions to both global corporate and financial institutions.
Owen takes over the role from Peter Sprent, who has served at the firm for 11 years. LSM stated that Sprent is leaving to pursue personal interests. However, Owen will work closely with Sprent to ensure a smooth transition before his departure in late March.
Owen joined LSM in 2012 as Head of London Markets for FRS. Since then, he has served in a variety of roles within the team, most recently as FRS Chief Underwriting Officer.
Before he joined LSM, Owen held the role of Senior Underwriter at Zurich Financial Services for over five years. Prior to Zurich, he served as a Class Underwriter on the War & Political Risk Team at Catlin.
Overall, Owen brings more than 20 years of industry experience towards the role.

Meanwhile, earlier this week, LSM promoted Melanie O’Neill to the role of Chief Underwriting Officer in London.
Additionally, earlier this month, LSM also appointed Carl Faulkner to the newly-created role of Head of Digital Strategy for Continental Europe.
