Lloyd’s has made Des Potter its special adviser to CFO and COO Burkhard Keese.

Burkhard KeesePotter, in his new role, will be working on enhancing Lloyd’s capital framework and the instruments available to investors to support underwriting.

Keese said: “I am delighted that Des joins us to strengthen our position as a credible option for institutional investors. Des has a wealth of experience in the capital markets and brings extensive knowledge of transforming reinsurance risk to securities.”

He added: “This appointment emphasises Lloyd’s focus on making our market accessible to investors to support syndicates at Lloyd’s.”

Most recently, Potter spent ten years at Guy Carpenter as both the managing director of GC Securities and CEO of MMC Securities. Des was also a member of the London Market Group’s ILS taskforce that worked on the development of the UK Risk Transformation legislation.

Prior to this, he held senior management positions at Aon Benfield Securities and Benfield Advisory. Des spent the early part of his career in the corporate and investment banking divisions of Barclays Bank.

The hiring of Potter seems to be part of a continuing shift in Lloyd’s, with Keese himself having moved from being the CFO to its COO only last month.

The decision to appoint Keese as CFO in 2019, we reported back then, was made with the unanimous approval of the firm’s Council members.
