HDI Global, a commercial and specialty lines insurer, has announced the appointment of Mark Mackay as Global Head of Energy & Power, effective 1 March.

Mackay will be succeeding Franz Adamczyk, who is stepping back from the role after decades of developing and expanding the Energy & Power portfolio in collaboration with clients and brokers worldwide.

With this transition HDI Global “reinforces its commitment to being a long-term partner for clients navigating transformation across power generation, traditional energy, and the accelerating transition to lower-carbon and emerging technologies – servicing the whole value chain out of the Energy & Power unit.”

Dr Dirk Höring, Member of the HDI Global SE Executive Board, responsible for Property Insurance, Engineering Insurance, Marine Insurance and HDI Risk Consulting, said: “Mark Mackay combines deep technical expertise with a strong international perspective and a proven track record of building sustainable, client-focused growth in Energy & Power projects.

“With Mark in this global role, we will further strengthen our position as a trusted partner in transformation for clients and brokers worldwide by supporting complex projects across conventional energy and power, as well as the technologies driving the transition.”

Mackay moves into his new role from his previous position leading the Energy & Power book at the company’s Singapore operation, where he was instrumental in strengthening the business across the eastern region.

In his new global role, the executive will focus on enhancing HDI’s client value proposition by integrating specialist underwriting and claims expertise within the cross-functional Energy and Power Unit.

Bringing over 15 years of international insurance experience, Mackay, a chemical engineer by background, has a proven history of developing portfolios through technical underwriting excellence, client-centric strategies, and robust broker relationships.

He initially joined HDI in 2019, having previously held senior roles at Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty and AXA XL.

Adamczyk, the outgoing Global Head of Energy & Power, will transition to a senior advisor role within the Energy & Power segment while retaining his Global Risk Property responsibilities.

Having joined HDI in 1981, he was instrumental in developing the portfolio alongside clients and partners, including establishing significant U.S. operations in Chicago. Importantly, he will remain with HDI Global.

Höring added: “At the same time, I want to express my profound appreciation to Franz Adamczyk. Over many decades, Franz has shaped not just our portfolio but also our way of working: With exceptional dedication, market insight and an unwavering commitment to our clients and teams. The Energy & Power business at HDI Global is strong because of his leadership, and we are sincerely grateful for everything he has built and continues to contribute.”

As Mackay transitions into the global position, Haris Michaels will take over leadership responsibility for the Energy & Power business of HDI’s eastern region portfolio in Singapore effective 1 March.

With more than two decades of experience, Michaels will continue driving growth in Asia, with a particular focus on supporting clients through transformation across the energy landscape.

Adamczyk stated: “Our dedicated Energy & Power unit today serves clients across the whole value chain: from resilience in conventional energy to new technologies across the transition. I’m proud of what we have built together with our clients and partners, and I’m confident Mark will take our business into its next chapter. I am very pleased to hand over the leadership role to him. I also look forward to continuing to support our Energy & Power business in my ongoing roles.”

Commenting on his new appointment, Mackay said: “I’m honoured to take on the Global Head of Energy & Power role, where Franz has built and nurtured a strong proposition for our clients. Our clients are navigating complex, high-stakes transformation programmes, and they expect expertise, consistency and speed from their insurance partners. Together with our teams worldwide, we will continue to bring the best of HDI Global to support clients across the full spectrum of Energy & Power: Technical excellence, global reach and bespoke solutions.”
