AXA XL, the property & casualty (P&C) and specialty risk division of global insurer AXA, has announced the appointment of Joseph Madigan as Chief Underwriting Officer for its North American Environmental Insurance business for Middle Market.
Madigan will be based in AXA XL’s Exton, Pennsylvania, office and report to Matthew Waters, Head of Middle Market, Americas, who commented: “AXA XL has been a pioneer in the environmental insurance market with nearly 40 years of environmental underwriting experience.
“With more than 25 years of experience in environmental insurance, Joe has been a big part of that journey. His new role will ensure that AXA XL will continue to help businesses build their sustainability and be strong stewards of the environment.”
Prior to his new position, Madigan was Head of Environmental for the East Region for AXA XL, Americas.
He joined AXA XL’s Environmental insurance business back in 1998 as an Environmental Underwriter and took on more senior roles throughout his career, including Environmental Executive Underwriter and Environmental Regional Manager, Canada and Central US.
Madigan is one of AXA XL’s latest appointments. In early July, Kathleen Ziegler joined the firm as the new Chief Operating Officer (COO) for Americas Insurance business.
Additionally, James Lee as Head of Client & Distribution and Alex Barker as Chief Underwriting Officer Large Commercial, joined AXA XL Canada shortly after.
