Spanish insurer Mapfre has partnered with AgriTask, an international precision agriculture provider, to develop a digital claims management system for insurance companies operating in the agricultural sector.

Agriculture Latin AmericaThe new system integrates relevant geographical information of plots covered by insurance and correlates inspection protocols to the actual location of all policyholders, providing Mapfre with full-scale access to its customer base and allowing it to plan inspections directly on digital maps in the AgriTask platform.

The parties said the application combines Mapfre’s knowledge of insurance in the agricultural sector with AgriTask’s capabilities in the field of precision agriculture, and they plan to develop additional products in the areas of risk assessment and compliance once the claims management system is fully operational.

AgriTask claimed that its ability to integrate and process a wide range of climatic and agronomic data sources will enable Mapfre to access new digital tools for assessment, analysis and decision making, and will allow it to better differentiate itself from its competitors.

The first application was developed jointly with Mapfre’s subsidiary in Paraguay to manage inspections and claim reports directly with the use of AgriTask’s platform.

Mapfre Paraguay recently started conducting damage inspections involving maize and soybean policies with the AgriTask platform and its mobile app, with compensations calculated automatically thanks to the platform’s digital evaluation.

“Due to the remote location of our customer base, we used to lose a lot of time from the actual disaster to damage assessment and settling the claim,” says Alfredo Villanueva, international insurance advisor of the agricultural insurance department of Mapfre.

“All these steps can now be managed through one system improving customer service and making our operations far more efficient and agile,” he added.

Israel Fraier, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and co-founder of AgriTask, also commented: “Insurance companies in the agricultural sector have a critical need for comprehensive digital based solutions for collecting, processing and analyzing large amount of data and this is AgriTask’s greatest strength.”
