Markel International, the specialist insurance arm of Markel Group Inc., has appointed Camilla Roughan as Senior Underwriter – Energy with immediate effect.
In her new position, Roughan will oversee underwriting for Markel’s upstream and midstream energy portfolio. Her remit includes reinforcing underwriting discipline while further developing relationships with brokers and clients.
By refining portfolio focus and strengthening risk selection, she is expected to support a more consistent and transparent approach for clients managing increasingly complex energy risks.
She will also contribute to improving internal processes across the energy team, with an emphasis on making submission handling more efficient and responsive. This is intended to give brokers and insureds faster, clearer guidance on underwriting appetite and coverage, while improving the overall placement experience.
Based in London within the Marine & Energy division, Roughan will report to Tim Foister, Head of Upstream Energy.
Roughan brings more than 20 years’ experience in the energy insurance sector, spanning upstream and midstream business, offshore construction and international energy programmes. She joins from Price Forbes, where she worked as Senior Broker and Account Executive, managing major North American and international accounts.
Her earlier career includes senior roles at K.M. Dastur Limited and Lockton Companies International, where she developed strong connections across key global markets including London, Singapore, India, Latin America and the Middle East.
She began her career in underwriting at Wellington Underwriting and Catlin UK, gaining experience in technical areas such as peer review, aggregate entry and actuarial modelling.
Foister added: “The upstream and midstream energy sectors are operating in an increasingly complex risk environment; from volatile commodity markets and geopolitical tensions to rapidly evolving supply chain pressures and heightened scrutiny around operational resilience. These challenges demand underwriting expertise that is both technically robust and commercially grounded.
“Camilla’s extensive international broking and underwriting background, combined with her deep understanding of complex energy programmes, make her exceptionally well-placed to support our clients as they navigate this shifting landscape. Her ability to translate technical detail into clear, actionable insurance solutions will strengthen our offering and ensure we continue delivering the high- quality, responsive support our customers expect and value from Markel.”
