Marsh, the world’s leading insurance broker and risk advisor and a business of Marsh McLennan, appointed Kelly Butler as the UK Cyber Leader, effective October 2023.
As part of her new role, Butler will be based in London and report directly to Beth Thurston, CEO of UK Financial & Professional Lines (FINPRO).
Butler brings a wealth of experience to her new position, having served as the Chief Client Officer & Cyber Practice Leader, Pacific, based in Melbourne.
Since joining Marsh in 2016, she has held various senior cyber insurance roles, overseeing client advisory and placement services for cyber risk throughout the Pacific region. Additionally, she has served as a senior cyber advisor for Marsh’s largest clients.
In her new role, Butler will be responsible for the strategic development and delivery of Marsh UK’s cyber insurance and placement capabilities.
She will work closely with Marsh McLennan’s global team of cyber risk experts to develop integrated risk and advisory services. These services aim to assist clients in managing the rapidly-evolving landscape of cyber threats.
Commenting on the appointment, Beth Thurston highlighted the ongoing and increasing importance of cybersecurity for businesses, saying, “Cyber risks pose a constant danger to our clients’ businesses and livelihoods. Kelly is an exceptional leader who has spearheaded numerous market-leading initiatives in the Pacific region.”
“As UK Cyber Leader, Kelly will play a pivotal role in creating next-generation cyber solutions to help our clients mitigate these rapidly-evolving threats and take advantage of emerging technologies,” Thurston added.
Butler herself acknowledged the challenges faced by organisations in dealing with cyber risks and emphasised her commitment to assisting clients in developing effective risk mitigation and insurance programs.
“While cyber risk and its associated threats rightfully concern boardrooms across the globe, many organisations still struggle to develop meaningful risk mitigation and insurance programs,” she said.
Butler expressed her enthusiasm for collaborating with the UK team and Marsh McLennan colleagues worldwide to help clients bolster their cyber defenses.
