Global reinsurer Munich Re has announced a number of key leadership appointments within its Claims organisation, all effective June 1, 2026.

Michal Mekota, current Head of Single Risks Claims, will step back from his role in the light of his retirement by end of November.

During this period, he will serve as Senior Executive Consultant, focusing on strategic projects while reporting directly to Global Claims Chief Executive Claudia Hasse

Matthias Meyer will be succeeding Mekota as Head of Single Risks Claims, leveraging his over two decades of industry experience. This move will ensure a smooth transition and handover, Munich Re noted.

Rolf Heintzeler will take on responsibility for Reinsurance Claims Europe & Latin America, succeeding Meyer. Heintzeler has been with Munich Re for over 16 years, having most recently served as Head of Insurance Consulting.

Claudia Hasse, Global Claims Chief Executive, commented: “I would like to sincerely thank Michal Mekota for his outstanding contribution to our Claims organization over many years. His expertise and commitment will continue to be of great value as we further strengthen our global capabilities.

“At the same time, I wish Rolf Heintzeler and Matthias Meyer every success in their new roles. Our Claims proposition is a core element of Munich Re’s strategic program Ambition 2030, and I am confident they will play a key role in driving our organization forward.”
