The Managing General Agents’ Association (MGAA), the trade association representing the managing general agent (MGA) sector, has published its 2026 Annual Report, detailing developments across its membership, events, industry engagement and regulatory activity over the past year.

mgaa-logoThe report covers the period from 1 August 2025 to 31 July 2026 and provides an overview of the association’s activities as the MGA sector continues to develop within the wider insurance market. The MGAA said its work during the year focused on supporting members, providing market insight, facilitating industry engagement and representing the interests of the delegated underwriting sector.

Membership increased across each of the MGAA’s three categories during the reporting period. The number of MGA Members rose from 249 to 270, while Market Practitioners increased from 68 to 76. Supplier Members also grew, rising from 152 to 162.

Alongside the increase in membership, the MGAA reported greater participation in its programme of events and educational initiatives. The association hosted 53 Professional Optics sessions during the year, compared with 43 in the previous period. Across these sessions, there were 4,638 registrations and attendees, while the average number of registrations per session increased by 38%.

The MGAA’s Annual Conference also recorded strong attendance, with more than 1,300 delegates taking part. The association additionally held Broker Exchange events in Leeds and London as part of its programme aimed at bringing together participants from across the insurance distribution chain.

The MGAA’s Conversations series continued to attract an audience during the year, with 15 new episodes producing more than 8,300 downloads and views. The programme addressed a range of topics relevant to MGAs and their business partners, including insurance market performance, regulatory developments, artificial intelligence, automation, counterparty risk and changes in relationships between brokers and MGAs.

Regulatory matters featured prominently in the association’s activities. The MGAA said its engagement with the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) increased during the reporting period, including direct FCA participation in its Compliance Insights sessions.

Members were able to engage with Lisa Sturley, Director of Insurance at the FCA, alongside members of her team. According to the MGAA, the sessions provided an opportunity for members to hear directly about regulatory priorities and discuss issues relevant to businesses operating within the MGA sector.

Michael Keating, CEO of the MGAA, commented: “Shaping the Future of Delegated Underwriting reflects both the continued evolution of the MGA market and the role our members are playing in driving that change. As the sector grows and evolves, the MGAA remains laser-focused on ensuring our members have the latest insights into our sector’s rapidly evolving landscape, increased opportunities for stakeholder networking, and the relevant UK and European representation they need to succeed.

“Our stronger engagement with the FCA is an important part of that, ensuring the MGA voice is heard and giving members greater opportunity to engage directly on the regulatory issues affecting their businesses.

“Looking ahead, our comprehensive membership research project will help shape our priorities and investment over the next 24 months, ensuring the MGAA continues to evolve in line with the needs and ambitions of our members.”

The MGAA said its planned membership research programme will inform its priorities and investment over the next two years. The association expects the work to provide further insight into the requirements of its members and help shape its activities and support for the sector.
