Bermuda-based Mosaic Insurance has announced excess casualty as its eighth global product line, appointing April Andruczyk as Head of Bermuda, Excess Casualty to lead the new unit.
The facility begins underwriting immediately, and will provide support to large corporate and multinational clients facing rising liability costs, particularly in the North American market.
Alongside the appointment of Andruczyk from Allied World Assurance Company in Bermuda, Mosaic has hired two additional Bermuda-based specialist underwriters, Andrew Watson and Chris Abraham, as well as UK consultant Mike Warwicker, and junior underwriter Skyler Powell.
Andruczyk brings almost three decades of underwriting and leadership experience to her new role, most recently serving as Vice President of General Casualty at Allied World Assurance Company in Bermuda. Earlier in her career, Andruczyk spent 18 years with ACE Bermuda (now Chubb), where she managed its excess liability division, having started her career at the legacy Chubb Corporation in New York, where she held senior underwriting positions.
Watson brings two decades of experience to Mosaic, most recently serving as a senior underwriter of excess casualty at AIG, and previously worked at ACE/Chubb, having started his career in the industry in London as a reinsurance broker for JLT Re’s non-marine treaty team.
Abraham, like Watson, is a Bermudian, and has worked in the Bermuda market for more than 12 years, starting his career at Integro Insurance Brokers before joining Chubb in 2020.
Warwicker most recently served as senior vice president, head of excess liability, at Chubb Bermuda, and has over four decades of experience in the US, London, and Bermuda markets, specialising in excess casualty.
Powell is also a Bermudian, and former intern at Mosaic, who began her underwriting career with the insurer’s financial institutions unit in London, and now returns to Bermuda to take up her new position.
The new facility will target numerous industry sectors, including transportation, consumer goods, industrial manufacturing, utilities, construction, energy, hospitality, real estate, and life science. Mosaic’s Bermuda platform, part of the firm’s global agency network that leverages Mosaic Syndicate 1609, supported by syndicated partners, will provide capacity up to $10 million per risk.
Mark Wheeler, Co-CEO at Mosaic, said: “We are excited April will drive our new venture forward. This strategic expansion comes at a time when the excess casualty market faces ongoing challenges, and the need for reliable capacity remains elevated. Our approach has been carefully considered and, like all our lines, leverages the most outstanding talent—this time, in complex excess casualty. We have strong aspirations for the product to become a significant line of business for us.”
Toby Smith, Mosaic’s CEO, Americas, commented: “April is a highly respected market leader with extensive technical knowledge and enduring broker and client relationships. We are also pleased to welcome Andrew and Chris, with support from Mike, who, collectively, bring many years of experience and market insights to support our team as we build out this new line. There are exciting opportunities ahead, and we look forward to delivering solutions that meet the evolving needs of this dynamic market.”
“I’m thrilled to be joining Mosaic at such a pivotal time in the industry. I’m especially energized by the opportunity to collaborate with outstanding professionals and contribute to a company that is exceptionally well-positioned to respond to the current needs of the complex casualty landscape,” said Andruczyk.
