MS Amlin Underwriting Limited (MS AUL) has appointed Grant Baxter to be its new head of reinsurance and deputy Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO).
In a statement, the firm said that Baxter would report to Andrew Carrier, CUO of MS AUL, and will take up his role towards the end of the year, and will be based in London.
Baxter joins from Liberty, where over the course of almost a decade, he held several senior roles most recently head of portfolio management in Liberty’s global risk solutions division, and prior to that managing their global ceded reinsurance strategy.
Baxter also has extensive experience on the broking side, where after beginning his career at Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs, he moved to Aon, and latterly Willis Re, as an executive director for the firm.
Carrier said: “I am delighted to announce Grant’s appointment as head of reinsurance and deputy CUO. Grant brings with him real depth of knowledge, skill and true cross-class awareness and understanding. Grant will be central to the execution of our underwriting strategy, leading our reinsurance teams, as well as providing broader support across our entire underwriting faculty.”
He added: “His appointment demonstrates our continued commitment to build our underwriting bench strength, as well as our ability to attract highly capable talent.”
According to his LinkedIn profile, Baxter began his career at Morgan Stanley in 1997 as an analyst around equities and IT. From there, he took on a similar role at Goldman Sachs, before joining Aon in 2002. From there, he joined JLT Re in 2005 before heading to Liberty Syndicates where he was head of exposure management from March 2010 to January 2013. This was followed by two stints at Liberty Mutual Insurance, sandwiching two years at Willis Re where he was an executive director.
