MSIG Asia, a general insurer operating across Southeast Asia and part of MS&AD Insurance Group Holdings, has announced a number of senior leadership appointments that will take effect on 1 April 2026.
Clemens Philippi, currently Chief Executive Officer of MSIG Asia and an Executive Officer of Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance, will assume the role of Executive Officer at MS&AD Insurance Group Holdings and Chief Strategy Officer for the Group’s International Business.
He will share responsibility for shaping the Group’s international strategy with Keisuke Ema, General Manager of the International Business Department at Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance, who will serve as co-Chief Strategy Officer.
In their new roles, Philippi and Ema will report to Hironori Morimoto, Group Chief Global Officer of MS&AD Insurance Group Holdings, and will work on strengthening coordination and strategic alignment across the Group’s international businesses. Philippi will continue in his current role as Chief Executive Officer of MSIG Asia until further notice.
Separately, Tetsuya Adachi, Chairman of MSIG Asia, will step down from his position and conclude his tenure with the Group. He will be succeeded by Norihiro Tanaka, who currently serves as Executive Officer and Head of Planning at MSIG Asia.
Tanaka brings more than three decades of experience within the Group, having previously held senior positions including General Manager at MS Amlin Underwriting and Head of Liability and Cyber at Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance. His appointment is intended to support continuity in governance and strategic direction at the Board level. Tanaka will also take on the role of Executive Officer at MS&AD Insurance Group Holdings.
Philippi commented: “I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Adachi-san for his contribution and close partnership over the past four years. Working together during his tenure as Chairman, we grew our core portfolio, excluding India, by 45%, while advancing product innovation and digital transformation. We also established our 2029 Growth Ambition and put in place the capabilities to deliver on it, including strengthening talent, building our brand and developing strategic partnerships. We wish Adachi-san every success in the future and are confident our paths will cross again.
“On a personal note, I am grateful and excited to take on the role of Chief Strategy Officer at MS&AD Insurance Group Holdings. Working as one team with Morimoto-san, Ema-san and many outstanding colleagues, I am confident we will make a positive impact for our clients and partners.”
Tanaka added: “MSIG Asia has built a strong platform, supported by dedicated teams across our unmatched Asia Pacific network. These are exciting times for MS&AD’s International Business, and I am honoured to follow Adachi-san in this role. Together with our talented teams, I am confident we will continue delivering value to the Group and achieve our performance ambitions. I look forward to working closely with our MSIG Asia colleagues to sharpen execution, strengthen regional collaboration and drive sustainable growth.”
