Munich Re Chairman von Bomhard enters Insurance Hall of Fame

Chairman of the Board of Management at reinsurance giant Munich Re, Nikolaus von Bomhard, has been announced as the 2017 Insurance Hall of Fame Laureate, by the International Insurance Society (IIS).

The IIS today announced that Dr. von Bomhard is the latest addition to the Insurance Hall of Fame, which honours insurance industry standouts that have made a significant and lasting contribution to the global insurance sector, and that have been recognised by industry participants as a leader, innovator, and visionary.

Dr. von Bomhard is expected to be inducted on July 3rd 2017 at the gala awards dinner held in conjunction with the IIS Global Insurance Forum, London. Recent Laureate’s include XL Catlin’s Stephen Catlin, Denis Kessler of SCOR, Brian Duperreault of Hamilton Insurance, Don Kramer of ILS Capital Management, and Ikuo Uno of Nippon Life.

James Vickers, Chairman of the IIS Honors Committee, said; “Induction into the Insurance Hall of Fame award is the highest accolade in our industry and is a testament to Nikolaus’ outstanding achievements during his brilliant career at Munich Re.”

Dr. von Bomhard’s career with reinsurer Munich Re started in 1985 when he joined the firm under a graduate trainee programme, and followed with various underwriting, and then leadership roles within the company. He was appointed to the firm’s Board in 2000, and was named Chairman of the Board of Management in 2004, responsible for group development, group investments, group communications, group compliance, group human resources, and also group audit.

“As an effective leader with inspired vision, resolute ethical standards and a deep commitment to issues surrounding sustainable development, Nikolaus embodies the criteria of the Insurance Hall of Fame. He steered Munich Re successfully through the financial crisis with a steady hand,” said Michael Morrissey, IIS President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
