Munich Re names Sabine Starbatty as CUO, Agriculture for the Americas & Europe

Munich Re, a global reinsurer and provider of primary insurance and risk solutions, has appointed Sabine Starbatty as Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO) of Agriculture for the Americas & Europe, effective May 1st, 2026.

munich re logoThe reinsurer confirms that for North America, Starbatty will assume the responsibilities currently held by Lambert Muhr, who will retire at the end of September after several years of successfully developing the firm’s agricultural portfolio.

Starbatty has 25 years of industry experience with deep underwriting expertise, strong client focus, and a people-centred leadership approach.

She joined Munich Re in 2001 as a Graduate Trainee for Property Treaty UK Globals, and she has since made significant contributions across a range of markets and lines of business.

Most recently, Starbatty was the Head of Non-Life for Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and Cyber for Australia/New Zealand, Greater China, and Africa.

In the past, she has served as CUO of P&C Treaty and Cyber for MENA, GC, ANZ, SA and as Head of Insurance-related solutions for Property UK & Nordics.

Starbatty started her career as an Underwriter and Senior Underwriter for Property Treaty, moving on to serve as a Senior Underwriter and Senior Corporate Underwriter.
