New Reinsurance Company Ltd. (NewRe), a Swiss reinsurer and part of the Munich Re Group, has announced the appointment of Dr. Sascha Brehm to its Board of Directors, effective 16th January 2026.
Brehm succeeds Markus Hummel, who stepped down after four years of service on the Board to assume the role of Chief Executive Officer at MEAG, the asset management company within the Munich Re Group.
Brehm brings more than 15 years of experience in the reinsurance industry, with a strong track record in risk management and accounting.
He has spent nearly 17 years at Munich Re, holding various senior leadership roles, most recently as Group Chief Risk Officer.
Prior to that, he served as Senior Executive Manager – Global Owner of Accounting Processes / Digitisation / Automation at Munich Re.
Claudia Strametz, President of the Board, said, “We bid farewell to Markus Hummel with immense gratitude for his outstanding commitment and the international risk management expertise he brought to NewRe during his tenure. His contributions have been instrumental in supporting the company’s strong development. We are delighted to welcome Sascha Brehm as his successor who is exceptionally well positioned to continue and build on this legacy.”
Thomas Braune, CEO of NewRe, added, “We very much look forward to Mr. Brehm’s valuable contribution to our Board of Directors. His solid business acumen, financial leadership skills, and deep understanding of the reinsurance industry will be a strong complement to the existing Board and will further strengthen NewRe’s governance as we pursue our long-term strategic objectives.”
