Bobby Swarup, an insurance industry veteran with over two decades of experience, has announced the launch of Niyam Group, a new venture in India which will bring more reinsurance capital to the market.

Niyam’s vision is to build economic resilience and enable equitable growth, aligned with India’s ambition of Viksit Bharat 2047.

“Niyam in Hindi is often understood as a rule. In Sanskrit though, it is a code of conduct, a set of guiding principles for living a purposeful life. Niyam Group will embody this idea as a principles driven organisation with a clear sense of purpose,” said founder Swarup.

In the past, Swarup has held several executive leadership positions, including serving as Managing Director of Imara at Volante Global for six years, Chief Financial Officer of GGH Ltd., Non-Executive Director of Ensure Insurance (now Allianz Nigeria), and as a Director at Ernst & Young (EY) for 13 years.

Additionally, Sima Ruparelia has been appointed as President and Active Underwriter at Niyam Group. As a Founding Member, she will work alongside Swarup to build the business.

Most recently, she served as the Non-Executive Director of British Gas Services Ltd., and as the Chief Actuarial and Risk Officer, UK Branch Manager of PartnerRe.

In the past, Ruparelia has served as Chief Actuary of the UK, Europe, MEA, Global Specialty and Talbot, Chief Actuary of EMEA at global insurer AIG.

Previously, she was also the Head of Reinsurance Reserving and Legal Entity Actuarial Function of XL Catlin, Group Actuary and Group Head of Economic Reporting of Catlin, and Senior Manager at EY.

Ruparelia said, “Niyam means principles, and that ethos is central to how we intend to operate. We are building a principles-led reinsurance business grounded in disciplined underwriting, long-term partnerships, and purposeful leadership.

“Our vision to 2047 is to support economic resilience across India and other emerging markets. With thanks to my colleagues and teams at PartnerRe, as I move into this next phase. I look forward to connecting with brokers, partners, and industry colleagues as we shape the journey ahead.”
