Ocean International Reinsurance Company Ltd. (Ocean Re) has appointed Canopius Group’s Jamie Wakeling as Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO).
A highly experienced veteran across the industry, Wakeling joins Ocean Re after spending just under 20 years of service at Canopius.
He joined the firm in 2001 as an underwriter and would serve in this role for just under nine years. In 2010 he was then named Head of Property Treaty, and would hold this role for five years.
In late 2015, Wakeling was then promoted to CUO of Sompo Canopius Re, and would serve in this role until early 2018 before being named CUO Reinsurance of Canopius.
Then in 2019, Wakeling was promoted to his most recent role at the firm, Global Head of Reinsurance.
Before he joined Canopius, Wakeling served as an Underwriter – International Treaty at CNA Re.
Last year, Ocean Re acquired Oceva Risk Solutions Limited, a London Market-facing business that is fully authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
Headquartered in Barbados, Ocean Re specialises in non-catastrophe P&C underwriting business across the Latin American region, and has been operating since 2006.
