Owais Ansari set to become CEO, Life & Health, MENA at Munich Re

Global reinsurance giant Munich Re has announced that Owais Ansari has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer, Life & Health, Middle East and North Africa (MENA), with effect from September 1, 2023.

According to the announcement, his appointment is subject to regulatory approval.

In the role, Ansari will be based in Dubai, where he will report to Daniel Cossette, CEO Munich Re Life & Health Asia Pacific Middle East & Africa.

At the same time, Ansari will succeed Frank Mayer who is retiring from his current role at the end of the year.

Munich Re also noted that in this role Ansari will also be responsible for MR HealthTech and MedNet.

Overall, Ansari brings more than 23 years of experience within Life and Health Insurance and Takaful business. Before he joined the reinsurance giant, Ansari served as the Deputy Chairman in the Executive Board of FWU AG.

He was with FWU from 2009, having held several senior roles spanning from Chief Actuary, COO, Member of the Board of Management and the Executive Board, in Dubai, Luxembourg and Munich.

Ansari, commented on his appointment: “The Middle East and North Africa offer significant opportunities for life and health (re-)insurance. Munich Re having an established presence in this region is well placed to develop and grow within these markets. Together with the highly motivated team that awaits me, I will devote all my energy and experience to achieving the optimum solutions for Munich Re’s clients in the region.”

Cossette, added: “Owais will be a great asset to our leadership team. He will further strengthen our successful partnerships with clients in the years to come, as we remain committed to be their valued partners and to growing our presence in the Middle East and African markets. He will be able to leverage the great work done by Frank Mayer whom I would like to express my thanks for his contribution to building Munich Re’s presence in the region and leading our Dubai Branch.”

In other related Munich Re news, the reinsurance giant recently signed a long-term collaboration agreement with INTILION to insure its large-scale energy storage system.
