Pacific Life Re, an international life reinsurance company providing reinsurance solutions and support to life insurers, has announced changes to the leadership of its global Protection business.
The revised structure is intended to strengthen global expertise, increase regional leadership focus and support the needs of clients across its markets.
Pacific Life Re said the changes will bring pricing and underwriting functions together under a single global leadership structure, alongside dedicated leadership for key regional markets.
The company expects the new arrangements to support closer coordination between technical and client-facing teams, while allowing decisions to reflect local market conditions and draw on resources across its international operations.
The company said the changes are intended to help it respond to insurers’ requirements as customer preferences, distribution channels and demand for protection products continue to develop.
“Across the world, insurers are navigating evolving customer expectations, changing distribution models and increasingly complex protection needs.” added Andrew Gill, Executive Vice President, Protection. “By bringing leadership closer to clients and markets, we are strengthening our ability to support their ambitions while continuing to provide access to the global capabilities, expertise, and support that help them succeed.”
As part of the revised structure, Pacific Life Re has appointed Jia Yi Tan as chief pricing, underwriting and claims officer, Protection. The appointment expands her existing remit, placing additional functional responsibilities under her leadership across the Protection business. According to the company, the role is intended to improve coordination across these areas and strengthen links between global functions and regional teams.
Pacific Life Re has also confirmed a series of appointments and expanded responsibilities across its regional Protection operations. Jane Cheng will serve as general manager, Protection, South-east Asia, while Jonathan Sen has been appointed general manager, Protection, Australia. Mala Thurston will take on the role of general manager, Protection, Europe, and Kenichi Kim will assume the equivalent position covering Korea and Japan.
Pacific Life Re said the leadership changes form part of its approach to developing internal talent and maintaining support for clients across its international markets. The company noted that several of the new and expanded positions have been filled through internal promotions, reflecting the experience and capabilities of its existing workforce.
