PIB Group Ltd, a prominent player in the insurance industry, has announced the appointment of Charles Burgess as the CEO for Underwriting & Schemes.
This strategic move is part of PIB’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its executive team and pursue ambitious international goals of establishing a leading specialist and diversified pan-European insurance distribution business, the insurer noted.
Ryan Brown, Deputy CEO for PIB Group, expressed his enthusiasm for the new addition, saying, “I’m absolutely delighted to welcome Charlie to PIB Group and to our Executive team. He joins us with international MGA experience across many continents, as well as significant digital and insurtech expertise. Charlie has an entrepreneurial mindset which will see him building on and broadening PIB’s MGA capability out into Europe, as well as exploring innovative opportunities within the digital space to expand our schemes proposition.”
Burgess brings with him over 30 years of experience as a senior executive and board member. His expertise spans large international functions, consultancy for blue-chip customers in the insurance, reinsurance, and broker markets, and a qualification as a certified accountant.
In response to his appointment, Burgess stated, “This is an exciting time to be joining PIB Group as its international expansion continues at pace. The opportunity to draw on two distinct disciplines in both distribution and digital will be hugely satisfying. I will look to leverage these skills to develop Underwriting & Schemes whilst PIB continues to grow its brokerage both domestically and abroad. My exposure to PIB has been motivating; the management team’s drive, collaborative spirit, and entrepreneurial culture are what first attracted me to PIB.”
Before joining PIB Group, Burgess served at Munich Re Specialty Group (MRSG) for seven years, notably as the CEO for International Distribution. In this role, he was responsible for MRSG’s wholly owned MGAs, brokers, and Syndicate Service companies across the UK, Europe, Asia, Middle East, and North America.
Burgess’ career has been marked by versatility, including a stint as a Chartered Certified Accountant, experience in M&A at Benfield Advisory, launching Direct Asia in Asia’s B2C insurance market, and managing Distribution and Marketing for Zurich’s Direct general insurance businesses worldwide. He also co-founded Oxbow Partners, a strategic consultancy firm serving the insurance industry.
