Pinion Insurance, a newly-formed, technology-enabled specialty insurer, has launched Sarrus, an upgraded, fully integrated proprietary technology platform to replace the fragmented, outmoded data exchange in the Managing General Agents (MGA) sector through daily portfolio visibility and audit-ready reporting.
Sarrus allows MGAs to partner with reinsurers by digitising the flow of data and information from the MGA into the carrier.
Pinion explained that the platform is built without the constraints of legacy insurance infrastructure, as it operates earlier in the data chain by connecting directly with any source systems and creating a secure, automated and standardised flow of operational and risk data between the company, MGAs and reinsurers.
The platform is also equipped to deal with any system of record the MGAs utilise, while being designed to improve data quality at the source and give users faster access to consistent, auditable information. This launch marks Pinion’s inaugural step in using that expertise to create a secure, automated, and standardised information flow.
Pinion explained that by improving data integrity, consistency and transparency, Sarrus offers a scalable insurance data interchange capability. It is a system that can ingest “heterogeneous data from different market participants, map it into common structures, validate it, cleanse it, preserve lineage and auditability, and enable near real-time sharing of trusted information,” said the firm.
The insurer is currently seeking multi-jurisdictional licences in the US, UK, and the European Union and a rating from AM Best. For the US, nationwide E&S licenses will be obtained by acquiring an identified shell company, subject to parent state regulatory approval. The company is targeting binding business in the United States first, and is expected to launch in the third quarter of 2026, subject to regulatory approval.
Laura Baird, Group Chief Technology Officer and Co-Founder, Pinion, commented, “Insurance is entering a period of technological change, and Sarrus reflects what we can build as a new entrant, not simply by digitising existing technology, but by shaping a more open, efficient and collaborative insurance market and helping move the industry forward.
“This launch isn’t about building another proprietary platform for its own sake. Rather, it’s about creating efficiencies that lower operating costs and allow us to share more of the value we create across the insurance ecosystem.”
For MGAs, Sarrus creates the month-end bordereau, removing this operational burden from the MGAs. For reinsurers, the platform provides faster access to clean, auditable portfolio information.
Ying Gong, Head of Data and Analytics, Pinion, added, “With Sarrus, we have created a repeatable data layer that can connect to multiple source systems, extract operational and risk data, cleanse and standardise that data, and make it available to authorised participants in a reliable and timely format. We are thrilled to have this opportunity to design this product around the future state of the market rather than retrofitting technology onto legacy operating models.”
Philip Vandoninck, Chief Underwriting Officer and Co-Founder, Pinion, said, “The key to Sarrus lies in its digitalised data flows with market participants’ source systems. Sarrus routes data through a controlled data service centre, applies automated cleansing and transformation, and then provides standardised outputs through dashboards, analytics tools and controlled data-sharing mechanisms.
“We have prioritised our investment in this platform, ahead of launching the insurance company, so that we can reduce costs and deliver a better service to all our partners from the outset. For MGAs, Sarrus will result in a faster-than-market onboarding period.”
