Probitas 1492 announces the opening of Probitas 1492 (Europe) SRL/BV, based in Brussels and with a branch office in London, to underwrite business in the European Economic Area (EEA).
Probitas 1492 (Europe) is a service company and part of the Probitas Group of companies. It is regulated by the FSMA as a mandated underwriter and reinsurance broker, with authority to enter into contracts of (re)insurance on behalf of Lloyd’s Europe in Belgium, in all other EEA jurisdictions via the freedom of services and the UK via Probitas 1492 (Europe) SRL/BV – UK branch in London.
Nick Bacon, managing director of the Probitas Group, said: “Opening Probitas 1492 (Europe) is the next stage in the continuous evolution and growth of Probitas. I’m very proud that, following on from the approval of Probitas Managing Agency in 2021, we now have a fully approved European based underwriting agency, with a UK branch to serve London based brokers.”
He added: “We’re delighted to welcome Koen Cambre and are confident that his knowledge and experience in European markets will enable the continued development of our business.”
This latest news follows the announcement last August that Probitas Managing Agency had received all necessary approvals to assume responsibility for Syndicate 1492.
The Belgium office will be led by Koen Cambre, head of office and senior underwriter. Koen has held Benelux underwriting manager roles at AIG and Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty SE. He was also a financial lines underwriter at Allianz GC, relationship manager at National Borg NV, and asset management at Lombard International Insurances. In 2004, Koen was a tax consultant at KMPG Tax Consultants specialising in corporate tax.
