QBE Re targets regional expansion; names Attilio Tornetta as Head of Africa

QBE Re, the reinsurance arm of the Australian insurer, has announced the expansion of its treaty hub for Africa with the addition of Attilio Tornetta as Head of Africa, based in Dubai.

QBEIn this newly created role, Tornetta will be responsible for all the new treaty business incepting from the April 1st, 2021 reinsurance renewals.

He brings more than ten years of experience in the African marketplace to the role, and joins the re/insurer from MGA Fourteenzerofive, where he served as Lead Underwriter. Previously, Tornetta has worked at Aspen Re leading the company’s Sub-Sahara African business, as well as at reinsurance giant Swiss Re.

He will report to Houcine Zouaoui, the company’s Head of Treaty Middle East and Africa.

QBE Re says that this newly created role marks a regional expansion for its Dubai branch, designed to place greater focus on the whole of continental Africa.
