Rakesh Thakrar appointed interim Group CFO at Athora

European savings and retirement services group Athora, has appointed Rakesh Thakrar as interim Group Chief Financial Officer (CFO), effective immediately, succeeding Anders Malmström who will leave the organisation in early 2025 to assume an executive role at reinsurance giant Swiss Re.

Athora LogoAt the same time, Rakesh also joins the Athora Group Management Committee, subject to regulatory approval.

According to the announcement, both Thakrar and Malmström will work closely to ensure a smooth transition of responsibilities.

Overall, Thakrar brings more than 25 years of insurance expertise towards his new role.

Most recently, he served as CFO of Phoenix Group, the long-term savings and retirement services firm.

Furthermore, Malmström joined Athora in May 2021, bringing a deep degree of international insurance experience and leadership.

Earlier in his career, Malmström served as Senior Executive Director and CFO at AXA US, member of the executive board and Head of the Life business at AXA Winterthur, and held senior leadership roles at Swiss Life Group.
