In May, we hosted our second Legacy Market Roundtable in Brighton, in partnership with global reinsurance company Swiss Re, to coincide with the annual meeting of the legacy re/insurance market. The event brought together 13 leaders and experts from across the retrospective ecosystem to examine a market in transition.
In partnership with Swiss Re, the 2026 Reinsurance News Brighton Legacy Market Roundtable report is now available to download for free.
During the 90-minute session, buyers, sellers, brokers, advisory and legal specialists explored the influence of hard and soft market cycles and M&A on legacy dynamics, as well as the challenges of execution and data quality.
Roundtable participants reflected on the role legacy plays within their organisations and where it sits among strategic priorities, and it became clear that greater awareness and education around legacy solutions remain necessary.
Partnerships, syndication, and broader collaboration also emerged as key themes, with participants considering approaches of the live market, while being cognisant of the unique selling points of legacy.
The discussion also explored what could drive the next wave of activity. Participants identified forward exit solutions, MGAs, and M&A as key catalysts for future growth, while emphasising that success will depend on the market’s ability to remain adaptable and deliver a broader range of solutions.
The overall sentiment was positive. Participants expressed confidence in both the current state of the legacy sector and its long-term trajectory, while recognising that continued investment in education, collaboration and effective execution will be essential as the market continues to evolve.
