Relm Insurance, an insurer providing coverage for businesses operating in emerging and specialised sectors, has appointed Sue Crawford as Senior Vice President and Head of Distribution, reporting to Chief Underwriting Officer Shane Doyle and will be based in New York.
In the new role, Crawford will oversee Relm’s distribution strategy and work with brokers and underwriting teams as the insurer broadens its product offering, expands into additional sectors and develops its international operations.
Crawford joins Relm from Acrisure, where she was responsible for managing the company’s eight largest strategic carrier relationships. Her role involved connecting those carrier partners with Acrisure’s wholesale, reinsurance, programmes and specialty businesses.
She has more than 25 years’ experience in insurance distribution and insurer relationships across the US, London, and Australia and New Zealand. Her previous senior positions include roles with Aon and Marsh.
Crawford’s appointment follows Christian Capes-Davies’ move to a new position as Group Head of Innovation and Digital Capital. Crawford will now lead efforts to strengthen the insurer’s broker relationships and increase the reach of its products.
Her responsibilities will include working with brokers to identify where Relm’s insurance solutions could support their clients, while helping to establish more direct and accessible routes to market across emerging sectors.
Relm said these markets include areas such as digital assets, artificial intelligence and the space economy, where demand for specialist insurance solutions is developing as businesses and their risks become more established.
“Emerging risks like digital assets, AI, and the new space economy aren’t niche anymore; they’re becoming core to how brokers serve their clients, and that’s not slowing down. What excites me about Relm is the distribution side of that: getting the right people in the room early, so brokers and carriers aren’t working these opportunities in silos. It’s about building relationships that let us bring smarter, better-informed capacity to the table,” added Crawford.
“Sue has spent her career looking at distribution from multiple sides, and that perspective is incredibly valuable to us,” said Doyle.
“She understands how to bring brokers, carriers, and underwriting teams together around opportunities that might otherwise sit in separate parts of the market. As Relm grows, we want to make sure the breadth of what we offer is reaching the right brokers and that we are delivering solutions to their clients, and Sue has the relationships and commercial instincts to help us do that.”
