Renew Risk, a specialist provider of analytics focused on risks affecting renewable energy assets, has named Joshua Macabuag OBE FREng as its new Chief Executive Officer.
The company develops catastrophe risk models and data tools designed to support the insurance and energy sectors in assessing and managing risks linked to renewable infrastructure, including wind and solar projects.
Its platform aims to improve understanding of both natural and man-made hazards, helping to inform investment and underwriting decisions.
Macabuag is a co-founder of Renew Risk and previously held the role of Chief Product Officer. Since the company’s launch in 2021, he has been closely involved in its growth and strategic direction.
His background includes experience in catastrophe risk modelling and the insurance industry, with prior roles at major re/insurers, The World Bank, and University College London.
In parallel with his professional work, Macabuag has spent 14 years supporting international disaster response as a volunteer Urban Search and Rescue Engineer with SARAID. His contributions were recognised in 2025 with an Order of the British Empire (OBE).
The company indicated that his appointment reflects a continued focus on advancing analytical capabilities in renewable energy risk management.
“Renew Risk was founded on the belief that better analytics can accelerate the energy transition,” added Macabuag. “I’m honoured to lead the company into its next chapter as we expand our international portfolio of natural catastrophe risk models, deepen our partnerships across the insurance and energy sectors, and build confidence in the deployment of renewable energy worldwide.”
The leadership change comes as Renew Risk prepares to introduce additional natural catastrophe risk models, including new tools for solar farms in the United States and offshore wind developments along the UK and European coastlines.
These will build on the company’s existing coverage across the US, Europe, and Asia, further strengthening its role as a provider of risk analytics for renewable energy projects worldwide.
