Speciality re/insurance MGA Rokstone, which is part of the Aventum Group, has hired 35-year underwriting veteran Graham Amato to launch a new Global Sports Personal Accident portfolio.

Launching with A-rated capacity, Rokstone is set to deliver tailored, Lloyd’s-approved wordings for a wide variety of sports including motorsport, golf, tennis, football, as well many more.

It is intended that all wordings will be able to cover the four key risks of accidental death, permanent total disablement, temporary total disablement, and medical expenses and repatriation, with some of the highest levels of cover found in the market both on a per accident and per individual basis.

According to the announcement, initial plans are for coverage to be provided throughout the UK, Europe, and North America, with further plans to expand into Asia in the near future.

Amato joins Rokstone from Worldwide Special Risks, where he previously served as a senior underwriter on worldwide contingency & personal accident books.

Throughout his impressive 35-year underwriting career he has also served in senior positions at major firms such as Aviva, InterHannover, and HDI Global Specialty.

He brings specific expertise in developing advanced and responsive solutions to those risks facing high-net-worth sports professionals and organisations, as well as strong relationships with brokers and carriers worldwide.

In addition to expanding Rokstone’s presence across the sports PA market, Amato also has plans to expand into niche areas such as eSports, and developing embedded PA solutions for Sports Associations.

Gavin Dollings, Chief Underwriting Officer – Commercial, commented: “We’re delighted to welcome Graham to the team and launch Sports Personal Accident, a great addition to our diversified range of portfolios which also includes our innovative Sports & Prize Indemnity. We have huge expertise in disrupting underrepresented markets with highly responsive wordings and high levels of capacity, as well as attracting the talent needed to drive growth in niche areas quickly. This is why we continue to be such an inspiring innovator in the MGA world.”

Addressing his new role, Amato said: “This place is a breath of fresh air. There is a culture of all being in it together. The incredibly approachable senior team find reasons to do things, rather than the other way around. They’ve resourced me properly; I can hit the ground running, and with the strong teamwork culture I have access to lots of cross-over potential with multiple classes of business.”
