Large European insurer Zurich has appointed Scott Yin as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Zurich China, pending regulatory approval.
In the new role, Yin will be based in Shanghai, reporting to Eric Hui, CEO of Greater China at Zurich.
He will lead the next phase of growth for Zurich’s commercial insurance business in China while also expanding its retail operations. He will also work closely with Zurich Cover-More on its Travel Guard offerings in the Chinese market.
Zurich said the appointment underscores its continued commitment to China, a strategic growth market for its Asia-Pacific business.
Yin has over two decades of industry experience across the Chinese and Australian insurance markets, combining deep technical expertise with full P&L accountability.
Zurich explained that he also has a strong track record in motor, EV pricing and underwriting, and applying advanced analytics and commercial execution to drive profitable growth.
Most recently, Yin served as the Chief Actuary of AXA Tianping, having joined the firm in 2015 as Head of Actuarial and also serving as the Chief Pricing Officer afterwards.
At AXA, he established the EV Insurance Centre of Excellence, harnessing insights from China’s rapidly evolving EV market to accelerate the development of EV insurance capabilities internationally and worked closely with Chinese insurers and automotive partners to support the overseas expansion of Chinese EV manufacturers.
Before this, Yin was a Senior Manager and Manager at Ernst & Young (EY), where he built and scaled the firm’s P&C actuarial advisory capability in Shanghai, supporting both domestic and multinational clients.
In the past, he has also served as a Consultant for Quantium and as an Actuary and Analyst for Suncorp Group.
Hui commented on the appointment, “Zurich’s global network, commercial expertise and strong local foundations create a powerful platform for easing the journey for Chinese businesses as they navigate the challenges of an increasingly competitive economy.
“Scott brings deep technical expertise, commercial leadership and extensive knowledge of the Chinese insurance market. With his track record in supporting the international expansion of Chinese businesses, and strong expertise in motor and EV pricing and underwriting, Scott will lead Zurich China through our next phase of development.”
Yin added, “I will be working with our teams to strengthen our offerings, to ensure that our customers are well-covered at every stage of their ambitions. Ensuring customers have the right insurance frameworks for managing risk while optimizing their protection is key. I am delighted to be joining Zurich at this important juncture of its China growth story and look forward to working with our teams and clients to grow.”
