Sompo International Holdings Ltd., a Bermuda-based holding company, has appointed Stephen Barr as Head of Marine & Energy Liability Insurance, London Market.
In his new role, Barr will be based in London, where he will report to Paul Ashworth, Head of Aviation, Energy and Marine, London Market.
He joins Sompo International from CNA/Hardy, where he previously served as European Head of Marine Insurance.
Throughout his career in the industry, Barr has previously worked as both an underwriter and a broker with Talbot, Hiscox and Sedgwick.
In addition, in 2022 he was named vice chair of the International Union of Marine Insurance’s executive committee.
Addressing Barr’s appointment, Ashworth said: “Sompo International’s marine and energy insurance capability is well established and a cornerstone of our offering in the London specialty market. With the continued expansion of our UK business, in support of the company’s overall growth strategy, Stephen’s depth of experience and insight will be an asset as we engage in new opportunities and further develop bespoke solutions for our broker partners’ and clients’ evolving needs.”
Sompo International recently entered into a partnership with The British Insurance Brokers’ Association (BIBA).
In October, Sompo International named Marilyn Faugas as Country Manager, Insurance for France.
Faugas ‘appointment comes as the company is in the process of establishing insurance operations in France, subject to required regulatory notifications.
