Specialist Risk Group (SRG), an insurance intermediary backed by Warburg Pincus and Temasek, has expanded its global footprint with the launch of its Australian business.
SRG is positioning itself as an agile challenger focused on the mid-market, combining its global reach with a high-quality local team that brings long-standing relationships and deep understanding of the Australian insurance market.
Warren Downey, Group CEO of Specialist Risk Group, said: “The launch of SRG in Australia is a natural next step in the international strategy we have been executing over recent years, following our expansion into Asia Pacific and the development of our European platform.
“Our ambition is to build a genuinely international specialist insurance group, focused on markets where deep expertise, strong relationships and access to international capability really matter. Australia is a sophisticated, outward-looking market, and by combining high-quality local leadership with the strength of our international platform, we are continuing to build SRG in a way that is deliberate, connected and designed for long-term growth.”
The new Australian operation will be fully integrated with SRG’s existing international platform, which includes London, Singapore, and Europe. This provides clients with access to SRG’s global specialist expertise, delivered through a dedicated local service model.
Initially, the Australian business will focus on specialist capabilities in Entertainment, Media & Sport, with further specialisms to be developed in the near future, according to the announcement.
SRG’s approach in Australia mirrors the model that has underpinned its growth elsewhere: building teams around deep specialism, entrepreneurial decision-making and a culture that attracts outstanding people.
Laurence Basell, Managing Director – Australia at SRG, commented: “We’re excited to be launching SRG in Australia with a clear focus on the mid-market and on building a team of high-quality specialists who know this market inside out.
“There is a real opportunity to do things differently here, combining strong local relationships with the international strength of the wider SRG platform, supported by technology that makes it easier to work with us and delivers a straightforward, high-quality experience for clients and partners. Opening in Sydney and Melbourne is just the start, and we’re looking forward to growing the business further over the course of the year.”
