State Farm retains its leading position as the largest US property and casualty (P&C) insurer in 2025, based on total net premiums written (NPW), with the company reporting $113.79 billion in NPW.

State Farm’s total NPW is $30.64 billion ahead of second-place Progressive Insurance Group.
Progressive has moved ahead of Berkshire Hathaway Insurance Group to become the second-largest US P&C insurer, with $83.1 billion in NPW, representing an 11.7% increase from 2024, and the largest percentage increase among the top 10 insurers.
Meanwhile, Berkshire Hathaway Insurance Group reported $81 billion in NPW, representing a 0.8% year-over-year decrease.
There was little movement among the top companies in the rankings, with Allstate Insurance Group and Travelers Group maintaining their fourth- and fifth-place positions, respectively, with $56.7 billion and $42.1 billion in NPW.
USAA Group climbed to sixth place from seventh, reporting a 6.6% increase in NPW to $37.5 billion. Meanwhile, Liberty Mutual Insurance Cos fell to seventh place from sixth, as its NPW declined 3.3% to $37.2 billion.
Chubb INA Group and Farmers Insurance Group retained their positions as the eighth- and ninth-largest insurers, respectively.
Hartford Insurance Group moved into the top 10 from 12th place, driven by a 7.3% increase in NPW to $17.70 billion. American Family Insurance Group fell from 10th to 11th place after reporting a 2.5% decline in NPW to $17.3 billion.
