Swiss Re has announced the appointment of Deanna Ong as Chairperson of the Board of Directors for its Asian business, Swiss Re Asia Pte. Ltd. (SRAL).

Ong, who serves as a Director of both SRAL and Swiss Re, will succeed outgoing Chair Lim Siong Guan as of May 1st, 2023.

Lim Siong Guan, who has chaired the SRAL Board since its establishment in 2018, will retire at the end of his term.

“We are grateful for Lim Siong Guan’s inspirational leadership over the past five years”, said Ong. “His insightful perspectives on business trends have been instrumental to our growth across the region.”

At the same time, Swiss Re has announced that Paul Murray, who has been appointed as CEO of L&H Reinsurance effective 3 April 2023, will step down from his duties as CEO of SRAL.

This change will also see Victor Kuk, Head Property & Casualty Reinsurance SID, take on the additional appointment of SRAL CEO, with Daisy Ning, Head Life & Health Reinsurance APAC assuming Victor Kuk’s former role as the Chief Executive of SRAL Hong Kong Branch.

Both appointments are effective 1 July 2023, subject to regulatory approvals.

“I am confident that under Deanna’s leadership, supported by the management team, SRAL will continue to excel in fulfilling its governance and regulatory performance,” said Paul Murray.

Ong has been Chief People Officer and a member of the Group Executive Committee at GIC, a sovereign wealth fund established by the Government of Singapore, since 2017, and Managing Director since 2008. She joined GIC in 1994 and held various finance roles covering public and private market assets until 2009.

From 2009 to 2014, Ong was Director Finance, responsible for financial management across GIC’s portfolio, and in 2012 she also took on responsibility for Human Resources & Organisation and Corporate Governance. Prior to joining GIC, she was a tax accountant with Chicago-based accounting firm Arthur Andersen & Co.
