Swiss Re Corporate Solutions, the commercial insurance arm of global reinsurance player Swiss Re, has named two new regional Chief Executive Officers (CEO), Fred Kleiterp as CEO Europe, Middle East, Africa (EMEA) and Jonathan Rake as CEO Asia Pacific.
Kleiterp currently holds the role of CEO Asia Pacific, Swiss Re Corporate Solutions, but will replace Tony Buckle, who is stepping down as CEO EMEA. Kleiterp will relocate from Singapore to Zurich.
With this role, which he previously held from 2009 to 2013, Kleiterp will take on responsibility for strategy, development and performance of Swiiss Re Corporate Solutions presence across the EMEA commercial insurance market.
Kleiterp has been with the reinsurance firm since 2001 and held several positions across the wider Group before joining Corporate Solutions in 2009.
“Fred’s recent international experience in Asia Pacific, combined with his previous role as leader of our EMEA organisation, gives him the ideal background to further strengthen our presence in the region and fortify our relationships with clients and brokers,” explained Rudolf Flunger, Chief Regions Officer, Swiss Re Corporate Solutions. He added: “I’d like to extend my gratitude to Tony for his dedication and commitment to Corporate Solutions. Under his leadership, our operation in EMEA has grown profitably and is well positioned for the future.”
With Kleiterp set to vacate his Asia Pacific role to move back to Europe, Jonathan Rake, who is currently Head South East Asia and based in Singapore, will step up to the role of CEO Asia Pacific to succeed him.
Rake, who joined Swiss Re Corporate Solutions in September 2016 as Head South East Asia and has managed the company’s growth in that region ever since, will take on responsibility for overseeing the commercial insurance business and implementing Swiss Re’s primary market expansion strategy in Asia Pacific.
Rake will continue to have his current responsibilities until a successor is appointed. Rake oversaw the opening of the Kuala Lumpur office in March 2017, extending Corporate Solutions’ reach in the region. He has held positions in Europe, Hong Kong and Singapore.
“Jonathan’s extensive network coupled with his industry and local market knowledge makes him the perfect choice to lead our continued growth in Asia Pacific,” stated Flunger. “Furthermore, his commercial insurance experience will help us grow our primary lead business, which is one of our strategic objectives.”
Both appointments well be effective as of the 1st July 2017.
