Global reinsurance firm Swiss Re has added a new office in Manchester, UK for its commercial insurance operations, under Swiss Re Corporate Solutions, as it seeks to strengthen its UK presence.
Swiss Re wants to grow its regional commercial insurance portfolio across the UK, with the northwest offering plenty of opportunity for the company given the range of industries and commercial business undertaken there. The aim is to expand outwards though, with the UK seen as a growth opportunity it seems.
The Swiss Re Corporate Solutions Manchester office will serve large and upper mid-sized companies through the reinsurers national broking partners, focusing on solutions in primary Property, Casualty and select Specialty insurance business.
Swiss Re has hired Shelley Wright to lead the regional operation, being appointed Head of the Manchester Office, effective as of the 7th June.
“We’re excited to open an office in Manchester, a major commercial insurance hub,” Marc Davis, Head UK at Swiss Re Corporate Solutions said. “By establishing our presence in this regional market, we plan to strengthen existing relationships and capitalise on opportunities for growth with clients and brokers.”
Wright is a senior insurance executive with over 30 years of experience and extensive knowledge of the regional market. She will be tasked with implementing a regional expansion not just in the northwest, but across the entire UK insurance market.
“Shelley will help our UK team continue to strengthen our regional market position,” commented Davis. “The depth of her industry experience, combined with her successful track record in the UK regional markets, makes her the ideal leader to deliver on our plans. I’m looking forward to working with her as we build our team in Manchester and provide clients and brokers with relevant solutions and services locally.”
The Manchester office will be located in Spinningfields, offering Swiss Re a regional hub for primary commercial insurance business in northern England and the Midlands, and the company expects the office to be fully operational by mid-July.
