Global reinsurer Swiss Re has announced the appointment of Patrick Roder as Head of Casualty Underwriting for Regional Markets in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA).
Roder has served as Head of Casualty Research and Development (R&D) since re-joining Swiss Re in July 2021, having previously worked at the reinsurer between 2011 and 2016.
In this role, he was tasked with delivering research insights to the reinsurance desks, as well as the facultative and Corporate Solutions portfolios.
In his earlier tenure at Swiss Re, Roder served as a Senior Casualty Treaty Underwriter, with lead underwriting responsibilities for Switzerland, Greece, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan and support for Cyprus, Israel and Bermudas.
He then advanced to a role as Vice President ILS and Reinsurance Structurer, which required him to identify and source P&C transactional opportunities, manage growth initiatives and to act as deal team lead.
Following this, Roder spent four years away from the company at Synpulse Management Consulting, first as a Manager and then as an Associate Partner, where he was a member of the reinsurance and commercial insurance management team, and helped to set up and manage the company’s global ILS practice.
Roder also maintains a part-time position as Chief Financial Officer at yacht charter firm Asterion Sailing and has a military background that includes time as a First Lieutenant in the Swiss Airforce.
