Global reinsurer Swiss Re has promoted company veteran Torben Swart to Managing Director (MD) and appointed him as Head of Technical & Operational Excellence, Asia Pacific (APAC) excluding China, effective August 1st, 2026.
In his new role, Swart will help drive underwriting excellence, strengthen operational capabilities, and support business growth and resilience.
The newly created role reflects the reinsurer’s focus on strengthening technical excellence, operational effectiveness, and sustainable performance across the APAC markets.
He will continue to be based in Hong Kong and additionally serve as Head of Swiss Re’s Hong Kong Branch.
Swart has served with Swiss Re for over a decade and has held a range of leadership roles across its Life & Health (L&H) business in Europe and Asia.

Swart has also served as Key Account Manager, Division Globals, Head Business Development for Europe, the Middle East, and Asia (EMEA) and as Head Business Development EMEA L&H for Swiss Re.
He started his career as an Associate Principal for McKinsey & Company.
