Swiss Re proposes shakeup of board

Swiss Re has proposed changing the makeup of its board, saying that it is nominating Vanessa Lau and Pia Tischhauser for election as new members.

swiss-re-logoThe moves come ahead of the firm’s upcoming AGM in April. It also said that current board members Renato Fassbind and Susan L. Wagner will not stand for re-election.

Lau is the group CFO of Hong Kong Exchanges and clearing. Prior to that, Vanessa Lau was the chief financial officer of Alcoa’s global rolled products group in New York.

Before joining Alcoa, she worked as an associate principal at McKinsey & Company in Hong Kong. She started her career in various positions at PwC UK.

Tischhauser, meanwhile, served on the executive committee of Boston Consulting Group (BCG) between 2016 and 2021. She was also the global leader of BCG’s insurance practice from 2015 to 2021.

Prior to that, Tischhauser led the global commercial insurance and reinsurance business within BCG’s insurance practice and was responsible for the development and buildout of its insurance business across Switzerland and the UK.

Sergio P. Ermott, chairman of the board of directors at Swiss Re, said in a statement: “We are delighted to attract two outstanding professionals for election to our board of directors. Vanessa Lau and Pia Tischhauser bring strong expertise in financial services and proven strategic skills.”

He added: “On behalf of my colleagues, I would like to thank Sue and Renato for their great dedication and commitment to Swiss Re over many years. They both contributed strongly to our company’s strategic development. Their guidance and governance expertise will be thoroughly missed. We wish them all the best for the future.”
